Combined academic and administrative position (project manager)

The Danish Embassy in Budapest, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark is a global organization with representations and offices worldwide. The Danish Embassy in Budapest represents the interests of Denmark in Hungary. The work of the Embassy cover issues within a broad range of areas: Political and economic issues – in particular in the context of EU-cooperation, Trade and investments, Consular matters, Culture and Public Diplomacy, and Administration (including budgeting, accounting, security and IT). You will join a team of 2 posted diplomats, 7 local staff and 2 trainees.   

The candidate we are looking for will approximately allocate working time 70/30 on the political and economic issues (70%) and administrative and consular issues (30%). The work also includes PA-tasks for the Ambassador.

Tasks – academic position (70%):

  • Monitoring the political developments in Hungary, particularly in areas of importance to EU-cooperation, and to report on relevant issues in this context
  • Provide analysis on political, economic and legal issues as pertaining to a Danish context
  • Establish and maintain contacts with a broad network of relevant partners, including government officials, embassies, media, civil society organisations, research institutions, think tanks and other stakeholders of relevance to the work of the Danish Embassy
  • Participating in relevant conferences and seminars and assist in planning and implementation of activities (including high-level visits) aimed at improving relations between Denmark and Hungary
  • Participation in preparing outreach activities (social media, articles, speeches etc.)

Tasks – administrative position (30%):

  • Ad hoc administrative tasks on a day-to-day basis, including handling mails, answering phones, maintaining inventory lists etc.
  • Financial administration and accounting including supporting the digital payment transactions for the Embassy
  • PA to the Ambassador
  • Consular affairs in general and assisting Danish citizens where relevant – issuing provisional passports, visas, residence and work permits etc.

The right candidate:

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Law, Economy, International Relations, Social Sciences, Journalism or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international politics, in particular EU and European politics and a capacity to understand the political context of the various areas of work
  • Relevant work experience within accounting and finance administration. Intuitive approach to financial it-systems
  • Danish in general (written and spoken Danish) is beneficial but not a precondition
  • Fluent in English and Hungarian (written and spoken) is mandatory
  • Dynamic, solution and quality oriented, capable of seeing new possibilities and a good team player
  • Outgoing with an international mindset and able to make new contacts to external partners

Wage and conditions:

The employment is temporary for one year with the possibility of extension and will be based on local terms and conditions of the Hungarian labour market. Working hours 37 hours per week and occasional overtime should be expected. Salary will be based on qualifications and local conditions.
