Political Officer (maternity cover)

The Danish Embassy in Budapest represents the interest of Denmark in Hungary. The work of the Embassy covers a broad range of areas: Political and economic issues, Trade and investment, Consular matters, Culture and Public Diplomacy and Administration.

The Embassy is hiring a political officer who will also assist with administrative and consular tasks. The work also includes PA-functions for the Ambassador. The split between political and administrative/consular work will be approximately 70/30

Tasks – political officer:

  • Monitoring and reporting on political developments in Hungary, particularly in areas of importance to EU-cooperation
  • Establish and maintain contacts with a broad network of relevant partners, including government officials, embassies, media, civil society, research institutions, think tanks
  • Assist in planning and implementing activities aimed at strengthening relations between Denmark and Hungary, including high-level visits
  • Preparing outreach activities for the Embassy

Tasks – administrative/consular:

  • PA to the Ambassador and DHoM
  • Assisting and backup role in consular affairs
  • Ad hoc tasks, including handling mails and answering phones
  • Deputy role in financial administration and accounting
  • Helping with communication in Hungarian, including proof reading of draft posts for Facebook

The right candidate:

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Law, Economy, International Relations, Social Sciences, Journalism or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Hungarian and international politics, in particular EU
  • Outgoing with an international mindset and able to make new contacts to external partners
  • A high sense of responsibility and ability to work in different teams
  • Fluency in English and Hungarian (written and spoken) is mandatory. Danish proficiency is beneficial but not a requirement.

Conditions and wage:

The position is vacant from August 2019. The duration of the employment is one year as the position is to cover maternity leave. A limited extension might be possible.

The employment will be based on local terms and Hungarian labour market regulations. Working hours are 37 hours per week and occasional overtime should be expected. Salary will be based on qualifications.
